Young Riders

In 2021 Magspeed Racing achieved another long-standing goal – inviting young riders to race for the team – this was something Scotty intended to do from the very beginning,

With ex national and world masters cyclocross champions, experienced road, MTB and cyclocross racers, as well as life-long cyclists in the team, we have a wealth of knowledge and experience which we want to pass on to our young riders – to help them develop as bike racers and grow as young humans – and of course, most important of all, we want them to do it with smiles on their muddy faces!

Oliver Agombar

Rides: Cyclocross
Based: Cheltenham, Glos

Oliver has tried many disciplines: mountain biking, crit racing, hill climbs, time trials, track cycling and road riding. He likes them all but his focus is cyclocross at the moment. The 2021-22 ‘cross season was Oliver’s first proper season and he raced in regional league races, won a round of the Western League, competed in National Trophy rounds and went to the National Championships.

He’s looking forward to improving his skills and having fun with the Magspeed team. He still rides with his family but they have to keep up with him now!

Oliver started cycling at a young age with his family, trying to keep up on trails, roads and touring rides. He was introduced to cyclocross at Cheltenham Town Wheelers (CTW) and has been hooked ever since. He continues to train with CTW and help coach younger riders. He jumped at the chance to join Magspeed where there are more opportunities to race and receive support from experienced riders …and he likes the cool kit!

Sam Budd

Rides: Cyclocross, XC MTB
Based: Cheltenham, Glos

Sam joined Magspeed in 2021 and has competed in a full season of XC MTB and Cyclocross for Team Orange and is looking forward to heading back out for more XC MTB in 2022.

Sam’s love of cyclocross started with Cheltenham Town Wheelers (CTW) at the age of 9. Over the years, he’s had a go at time trials, track, road, CX and XC but always comes back to the muddy options!

Pre covid Sam was a familiar face at the Western CX league and was regularly found on the podium, covered in mud. Post covid Sam made the decision to travel a bit further for races to experience a wider field and prepare him for a National season. He regularly attended the Wessex league events as well pitching up at the odd Notts & Derby, Leicestershire and Central league events.

In 2020, Sam was lucky enough to attend the one CX National Trophy event that was held for the season at Milnthorpe as an U14. Whilst no other events were able to take place, this gave him a great introduction for 2021, where he took part in all 6 CX events plus the National Championships as a Year 1 U16.

Sam is proud to put on the Orange Jersey and ride for Magspeed and is looking forward to learning more from the team over the coming season

Georgia Mahoney

Rides: Cyclocross, XC MTB
Based: Barnstable, Devon

Georgia first got into racing after taking part in a small cyclocross race as part of a bike festival in the local park at the age of 7 and was immediately hooked. She joined the local cycling club, Taw Velo, and began training with them every Saturday morning. Her first race was at West Buckland CX as an Under 8 in September 2015 and Georgia has been competing in Cyclocross ever since.

In the following years, Georgia raced all over the South West on the road, mountain bike and cross and has been the Regional Champion and Regional Series winner in all 3 disciplines. In 2021, Georgia took part in some of the National XC series and is looking forward to improving on those results in 2022 as a 2nd year Juvenile.

Georgia’s favourite discipline is cyclocross and in the 2021/2022 season, Georgia was able to take part in her first National Trophy series as an Under 14, finishing 7th overall in the series and finishing on a massive high at Broughton Hall Estate in January 2022 with a 3rd place and her first ever National Podium. Georgia is also the current South West Under 14 Girls Regional champion and SW Series winner.

Away from riding her bike, Georgia is the host of Cycling Talk Podcast. She started the podcast during the summer of 2020 when the world was in lockdown as a way to inspire herself and other young riders like her. Since July 2020, Georgia has interviewed some of the best cyclists on the planet from a wide range of disciplines, from young riders to those who have had an entire career in cycling.

In 2022 you will most likely see Georgia at an XC event or on a cross bike but you may also see her at a few road events along the way!

Georgia says “I’m so excited to become part of the Magspeed Racing family and I can’t wait to start racing with the team!” .

Eleanor Whalley

Rides: Cyclocross
Based: Cheltenham, Glos

Eleanor has been riding bikes as long as she can remember. She joined Cheltenham Town Wheelers (CTW) in 2016 and decided to enter her first race, where she was immediately hooked. Over the years she’s tried out road, BMX and a bit of track but feels more at home in the mud.

She has developed a love of cyclocross and competed at 4 Nationals races last season where, despite a few mechanicals and the odd broken bike, she had an amazing time and gained loads of valuable experience. Eleanor was also the overall winner of the Western CX League and was second in the U16 girls at Regionals.

She’s loved being part of the Magspeed Racing family and is looking forward to racing with them as she makes the step up into Juniors. When she’s not racing cyclocross, Eleanor can often be found mountain biking in the Forest of Dean or exploring local trails.
